Description
I recently started using Twitter via Bitlbee, and one thing that would really help is a convenient way to follow hashtags. An idea I had is to treat them as specially-named channels. For instance, I could just do '/join #twitter_(hashtagname)' to follow a hashtag. Is this something Bitlbee's twitter implementation would be capable of?

That solution won't work because random /joins don't make it to the Twitter module (and there's no reason why they would in a multi-protocol and multi-account client). (Well, ok, maybe in some way this will be possible in some future.)
Another problem is that IIRC Twitter searches only work with their JSON API, and BitlBee uses the XML API. This will probably be fixed some day but not any time soon (assuming Twitter folks won't pull the XML API some day).

Also, #597. (Sorry, Trac is not quite "advanced" enough to copy CCs to duplicate tickets.)
