Random number of add-friend requests are sent (oscar)

When I'm adding a new contact, a random number of add-friend requests (sometimes over 40 in a row!) is sent to the other user, on bitlbee the line 'oscar - Buddy XXXXXX can't be added without authorization, requesting authorization' is repeated. The huge amount of requests usually freaks out the requested user...

here's an example with ~12 requests sent in a row:
