Description
I had a problem with yahoo where I could receive messages from a yahoo contact but I couldn't respond. "Account list" showed yahoo connected and "blist" showed that my contact was off-line, or so I thought until "blist all" showed that he wasn't registered as a contact. So I added him and ran "blist all" again, repeatedly; It didn't stick.
My yahoo contacts don't stick, even after "save". There was also a ":" added like a suffix to his username when root reported his messages.

Give it time and eventually it doesn't stick. I'm starting to think it might be a yahoo problem, but I doubt they could let such a problem slide.

I did some testing. I logged into yahoo mail beta and saw that my yahoo contact was not present therein. So I added him using yahoo's beta service. Well, then I checked with Adium and noticed that I had my contact present under two different aliases, one previously added with Adium or Bitlbee and the later recently with the beta mail app.
The two aliases do not show up under bitlbee but the newly added one does. Thus it seems that bitlbee is not able to access yahoo's contact database reliably.

... and if it isn't obvious, you need to add yahoo contact using their service to be able to chat to them. Of course, if you get them to add you, that might work too.

From reading the manuals on the net, I gather that what is happening is that bitlbee cannot download my yahoo contact list. That's why the contacts I've added via yahoo mail beta do not show up. This, in addition to fact that I can't add contacts via bitlbee.
I turned my firewall off, in the unlikely event that it was interfering but this did not help. I am using a DLink router.
So let me ask point black, does bitlbee download yahoo contact lists and their editing?
I'd ask this in irc again but it seemed dead last time I asked. Chascon

I'm assuming that my erroneous syntax was contributing to the problem. ie., add yahoo contactName@… NickName should be add yahoo contactName NickName
But still, bitlbee was not able to view my pre-existing yahoo contact list.

Hmm. What's the status on this now? Indeed you shouldn't include a @yahoo.com part, that's likely to cause problems.
(Sorry for the late response. I'm wondering how I Could miss this ticket with so many comments. Thanks for your patience...)

Ok, I guess you forgot about this ticket by now, sorry.
K, it seems my bug report didn't grab anybody's attention, maybe because it's taken care of, already. Seems that way.
Don't know if my bitlbee server updated but it now seems to stick. I even logged in to Adium, my reference client, to see that it stuck there too. Now I'll see if I can respond to my yahoo contact next time he goes on-line.
From reading Ticket #308 on unknown handle problems (which sounds familiar), I gather the reason I could not answer my yahoo contact is because I could not add them (they did not stick).
