Description
I know it's a stupid feature :-) , but the code is there and it's the only way user of Irssi can be accepted by people using MSN... It would be nice to import the code in the main branch.

I really enjoy Bitlbee+Irssi which is the only suitable IM client in my opinion.

Seconded..
The akke patches has been around for ages, why aren't they just added to the main codebase?

There are many reasons why the patch isn't in the main codebase:
- What would be the use of a BitlBee that touches the local filesystem on a public server? How would users actually be able to take advantage of it?
- It's a huge hack and its security is questionnable, not to mention the stability. I spent weeks on creating lean and reliable IM-modules (okay, the MSN module is having issues for a while already, and I definitely want to get that fixed...) and adding this patch would convert BitlBee into bloated crap too.
- Nobody took time to actually do it. I'm not going to do it for sure, so don't wait for me. :-)
- If you really want usericons and all the other crap, just use a graphical IM-client instead of BitlBee. BitlBee is text-based. It's for talking to people. Not to show them pictures of your dog.
Because of reasons like this, the Akke patch will just always be the Akke patch. Possibly things will change when libpurple becomes an option.

I'm sorry, I did not notice that page http://www.bitlbee.be/andy/. It would be nice if those features were included in the main distribution so that they would be running on the public servers.
Is there any public servers running the akke patch?

If only you just read the comment right above yours... :-)
"What would be the use of a BitlBee that touches the local filesystem on a public server? How would users actually be able to take advantage of it?"
If you want pictures and eye candy, I don't know what you're doing with an IRC-only IM-client.

Killing this ticket for now, it has become the latest spam target. I'm not going to implement this in this century anyway. :-P
