Update:

The problem do exist with the testing server.

The buddy status is correct if I use my live.cn account, but will always be offline if using hotmail.com account

testing.bitlbee.org is running pretty much the same code, that's odd.. :-/ Do you see any warnings at login time?

the testing server have the same problem.

I use live.cn(also msn) account on the testing server, so didn't encounter the problem. It's associated with the hotmail.com account

No problem, I removed the duplicate comments. So do you get any warnings tha tlook something like "msn - Login error: Error reported by MSN server: ADL/RML command with invalid modification" ?

Weird. Can you check if your contacts are blocked? This seems to happens sometimes, the MS servers do odd things with clients speaking an older version of their protocol.

They are not blocked. It's really wired, the problem doesn't exist when using @live.cn account in bitlbee, I think they use the same protocol.

After upgrading to bzr-devel-736, I delete the msn buddies and add them again, the problem seems gone.
