Description
I'm using bitlbee 1.2.8. When using "add 0 <msn-mail@…>" the users that are added joins the &bitlbee channel BUT they viewed me as "Offline" for some reason. When login on to MSN Live Messenger I noticed the users (I have added 2) were blocked?!?. I do not how or why this happened so do anyone have any ideas?
ps. the help states "add 0 <email> <nickename>" but I would guess that nickname is optional. ds.

That did not work (32bit). I just tested adding three more users on MSN and I had to login via msn live messenger to unblock them still. And one of the contact did not get the accept from me until I logged on to Live messenger (could be his adium client?!).
So, the problem persists.

You only installed the bitlbee-common package and still have the old 1.2.8 bitlbee. I'm surprised that that combination is even installable ... but it definitely won't give you the new code. :-)
Could you install bitlbee_... from that directory as well?

Now I can send data to a newly added user (he sees me as offline). When I log into msn live messenger the user is blocked... so I should not be able to send him any data in the first place. So I do not know what is going on now :)
But I noticed someting else. When someone add me to their msn list via msn live messenger I need to do a "add 0 <the-adding-users-msn-mail>" to get the contact to join &bitlbee , the person can see me in online mode and send data in live messenger but I can not see him until I also add his address in bitlbee too.

Hrmm, interesting behaviour. Microsoft definitely made contact list management more complicated. But at least it seems the blocking behaviour is gone in the msnp13 branch?
I don't have much time to completely fix this ATM but I guess we're back to acceptable now. I'll close this bug when I merge msnp13 into mainline.

Fixed by msnp13 branch, now merged.
Interesting. I've indeed seen two reports similar to this, but yours is clearer. I haven't changed anything here but Microsoft is subtly breaking support for MSNP8 - the MSN Messenger protocol used by BitlBee so far.
I'm working on an MSNP15 implementation in a branch called (confusingly) msnp13. There are Debian packages available in http://code.bitlbee.org/debian/wilmer-msnp13/lucid/
If you could try if that fixes your problem, that'd be great. Because I suspect that this issue, like many other "MS breaking MSNP8" issues, only happens with a few people.
