after being online for several minutes(without sending any message), can not send messages to the buddies, but can receive from them.

Is that because of the changing of the MSN protocal ?

Nothing changed as far as I know, but MSN server behaviour is changing a bit lately, sometimes. I had problems like this a few weeks ago, but they seem to be over now.

What happens there exactly? You log into MSN, do nothing and then fail to talk to people after a few minutes? Or do you have a conversation with someone, then it's silent for a while, and then you can't talk anymore?

Yes, I think there are enough comments here now. It seems MSN servers are acting a bit strange today. Let's just see if it will pass, usually it does. If it's still broken today, maybe something can be done about it.

If anyone here has *new* information (traffic dumps, etc), feel free to share them. But there's no more need for AOL/ME TOO posts.

I keep getting:

"02:27 @root> MSN - Warning: Closing down MSN switchboard connection with unsent message to ð, 02:27 @root> HQ, you'll have to resend it."

With different wierd characters instead of the nicks now and then. When that happens I can see what buddies are saying but not send replies (or more correctly they don't see what I say)

Sorry if this is a "me too" comment :-)

Summary: MSN protocal: can not send message to buddies, but can receive.MSN switchboard management code not very robust

It looks like things are more stable now, fortunately. Still, it'd be good to make BitlBee's switchboard handling more robust.

I need some testers/dumps/ways to reproduce the problems though, since I hardly use the MSN network myself.

FWIW this error message includes the actual messages now, so at least there should be no confusion about what got lost exactly.

Although I'm not sure if this will fix all problems, changeset:devel,300 should deal better with broken switchboards that still have queued messages.

Actually I meant changeset:devel,301.

<@root> msn - Warning: Many switchboard failures on MSN connection. There might be problems delivering your messages.

I keep getting this every few minutes while trying to talk with someone over the msn protocol. Sometimes it seems like they get delivered anyway, sometimes it doesn't. I'm on 1.2.3. Not sure where to go from here.

I have captures when this problem appears on msn chat session. Remote party doesn't receive messages, but I receive from him.

In general I see many "CAL" commands retransmissions... and some MSG retransmitted too.

It happens everyday, since most people use MSN -unfortunately :(-

Wilmer, you have my capture, but if you need anything else please tell me.

comment:18 Changed at 2010-05-11T21:43:53Z by wilmer

Oh, bah. I'm not sure if I still have those captures and if so, where I'd have them. :-(

I fixed the bug that caused these msgs; it was showed even for switchboards that didn't have any messages queued anymore which is pointless. changeset:devel,575 has the fix.

Real message loss should be a thing of the past though, and when I get reports about problems like this in #bitlbee it always turns out to be because of unreliable Internet connections, also affecting other clients...

If you (author of the last comment) still read this and have the dumps, I'd still love to see them. But I guess you gave up by now..
