Cannot connect to google talk using non-gmail account

Description

Added account while I had a gmail account. Deleted the gmail account, and wanted to connect using other address. This fails, have tried deleting and re-adding account as well. Works with google talk client. Maybe it has something to do with the handling of the @ in the username?
