Cannot set 'password' for channels in latest version (and passing password to /join no longer works)

When trying to enter a password protected group chat using

/join &channel password

This error is received:

not-authorized: Password required to enter this room

I was told that 'password' should be able to be set to a channel using

channel name set password passwordofchannel

When doing this, it results in an error:

Setting `password' does not exist
